Cover Reveal: Heart of Ice

I have another King Arthurs post in store for you, but I wanted to announce that starting today, The Snow Queen: Heart of Ice is available for pre-order! The Snow Queen tale will be told in two books–the first being Heart of Ice, and the second yet-to-be-named story which will be released in February 2016. You can read more about it on the newly installed “Other Fairy Tales” tab of my website, but I want to assure you all that while The Snow Queen takes place centuries before any of the Timeless Fairy Tales story, it is part of that story-world. You’ll recognize country names, and fans of Rumpelstiltskin will recognize landmarks and events that were foreshadowed. In the same way, because it’s so far in the past there are many differences. Loire doesn’t yet exist, the elves haven’t yet taken up residence in the white forests of Farset, and the biggest change….magic is feared. Okay, on to the cover!

Myrrhlynn did a beautiful job with this cover, especially considering she’s trying something a bit new by featuring a female model. Previously we’ve shied away from that–although recently Red Rope of Fate and The Little Selkie were both given new covers in a similar style–but Myrrhlynn did a fantastic job putting this cover together. The girl, the snow, and the forest are actually three separate layers she painted together. I’m especially grateful she went through the painstaking work of doing that (the fur caused her much anguish) because it makes the cover true to the story. Being that this is a retelling of The Snow Queen, including the snow was incredibly important, and when the story starts Rakel is living in a forest on a mountain.

The Snow Queen will be released December 17–that’s a Thursday–and as it’s a pre-order Amazon will be running the show, so you can expect your copy to pop up promptly at midnight/or 12:00 am that Thursday. Thanks for reading, Champions. I’ll talk to you again, tomorrow, about King Arthurs!

  1. Yay! A new fairy tale, complete with snow. Perfect for Christmas, whether it’s white or not. I’ve pre-ordered it and am so excited that it will be available to read after the looong 12 hour drive from my home in the South back to my childhood home in the beautiful Midwestern USA. I love relaxing with your stories!

    • WOW, that is a long drive! I live in the Midwest, so I hope we have some snow for you–though not while you’re driving. πŸ˜‰ I also hope the book makes you laugh–sounds like you’ll need it after that kind of trip. Thank you for reading!

  2. My breathe literally “caught” when I espied this cover, which is unfortunate because just at the same moment a squeal wanted to be let loose too! Woah. In speechless times, its good to have a keyboard infront of oneself. πŸ™‚ Seriously, anxious to get my hands on this book!!!! I’m still reeling after the end of “Endeavor”. For a full day I was distraught and aimless in finding something new to read to cheer me up. Not that a such a…moment…wasn’t amazing and anticipated. Now I fear the turn of events! I fear my heart will be ripped out and trodden on by Britt’s horse…yet I wouldn’t I miss the book the next book for a million dollars. πŸ™‚

Oh, and if and when you have the time, please check out this post. A certain author might like it.

    • Myrrhlynn will be delighted to hear you liked the cover so much! And I’ve done the gasp-exhale as well. I sound like an asthmatic Chihuahua choking on kibble when it happens. πŸ˜‰

While some of your fears might be…er…founded about Britt and King Arthurs, I can promise you a happily ever after! (I’m big on happy endings, but I like to make my characters work for it.)

Finally, I feel so honored that you put me on your booklist awards three times! Thank you! πŸ˜€

    • What excellent timing! Hopefully it will put you in the Christmas/winter spirit–the story is practically an avalanche of snow. πŸ˜‰

    • Like Frozen, I veer away from the source material–a little more than usual–but The Snow Queen was written by the same guy who wrote The Little Mermaid, so I have a history of doing that with his work. πŸ˜€ (Although he does treat his heroine much better in the Snow Queen. I don’t find the story insulting–like I very nearly did with Little Mermaid–it was just…difficult to adapt.)

  3. That Cover is absolutely stunning. I love the contrast in the model’s hair, darkness and light. The beauty of the cover instantly gives me a glimpse into the world of the story. Can’t wait to read it! And Don’t shy away from models!!! LoL

    • I’m glad you like it! I think Myrrhlynn is planning to use more models or pictures of people thanks to the positive reaction to the Snow Queen and Red Rope of Fate’s new cover, so hopefully you’ll like future covers just as much! πŸ˜€
